The first sunspot for SC24 can been seen at the higher latitude (upper hemisphere) of the sun, Sunspot 980Solar cycle 23 has 'unofficially' ended. The observation of a high latitude magnetically reversed sunspot signals the start of a new 11 year solar cycle. That also means that a gradual increase in sun activities, solar storms, CMEs...in short we're in for one hell of a ride soon. The peak will be around 2011-2013 depending on how accurate the predictions are, but the actual storm doesn't disappoint many predictions, being very accurate and at many times during cycle 23 throwing more than what we expected.

Congratulations on your new blog and I all the best for its future!
Ghosty,
I love astronomy. I could sit and listen for hours. Talk to me of stars and the heavens that live in them. Tell me f the dreamy waves of dusty clouds that make me want to be the first rider into the heavens.
